Back to some older stuff / Um pouco de velharia

I took the oportunity of a well lit saturday morning to shoot a couple of pictures of some old stuff in my collection. The subject is TAMIYA's superb rendition of the russian built 7,62cm anti-tank gun mounted on the czech type 38  tank carriage. The troop's designation was  simply Panzerjäger Marder. Although highly effective, it was a interim solution at best and the crew fought on top of it completely unprotected. Despite the poor armour, 344 of these vehicles were produced and delivered to the german army between april and october 1942 and many were still in action by 1944.

Aproveitando uma manhã de sábado bem iluminada, tirei algumas fotos de modelos antigos na minha coleção. O modelo aqui é o maravilhoso Marder III da TAMIYA, consistindo em um canhão anti-tanque 7,62cm russo montado sobre o tanque tcheco 38. Apesar de eficiente era uma solução improvisada para dar utilidade a canhões capturados disponiveis aos milhares e ao obsoleto 38(t). Ainda que sua tripulação combatesse praticamente desprotegida, 344 desses veículos foram fabricados e entregues às tropas alemãs entre abril e outubro de 1944. Muitos ainda estavam em ação em 1944.

IT'S PANZER TIME AGAIN !!!

Hello all my dear friends...
I've let you guys down big time since my last post (I don't even remember when I last wrote..).
Many moons have passed but I'm finally back for more plastic fun. Good thing is: while I didn't update my blog, I was building new stuff. So, without further ado, here's the first of a series. The model is DRAGON's superb Panzer IV ausf G depicting one of  Leibstandarte AH's vehicles during the siege of Kharkov, Russia. through  some combination of the decals included in the box, I was able to recreate the machine of the b&w picture below.
This model is also my first try at the "hairspray technique", about which I'll do a separate post later on.
There has been some debate whether the base colour under the winter whitewash should be dark gray or sand yellow. I chose the later as the original vehicle on this particular photo seemed not too dark under the white wash. But you be the judge of my work.

Ola caros amigos...
devo ter decepcionado voces com a minha ausencia por esses meses. Mas finalmente estou de volta para mais diversao em plastico. O bom de ter me ausentado, é que pude terminar um trabalho ou outro e iniciar mais alguns novos. Portanto, ai vai, sem mais delongas o primeiro de uma serie de novos modelos.
O modelo é o maravilhoso Panzer IV ausf G da DRAGON, que pode ser montado como veiculo da divisão Leibstandarte Adolf hitler da SS durante o sitio a cidade de Kharkov no inicio de 1943. Com um pouco de combinação de decais consegui realizar a versão da foto original abaixo.
Esse modelo tambem é o meu primeiro a usar a tecnica do "laqué de cabelo", sobre a qual vou dissertar num proximo post.
Ha muitos debates sobre a cor de base sob a camada de camuflagem de inverno branca, alguns afirmando que é cinza escuro e outros argumentando que é amarelo areia, ja que se trataria de veiculos destinados ao norte da Africa, e realocados a divisão mencionada acima. Escolhi o amarelo areia ja que foto original abaixo não mostra tanto contraste. Mas prefiro o julgamento de voces.

Panzer Kapputt !!! - The Finale

So I finally finished it! A long trip really, but I'm very happy with the results and will certainly do more destroyed tanks in the near future. Since the last posting on this model, all that was missing were the tracks and a scenic base, because the destroyed tank would look somewhat out of place among my other models without it. The tracks are link-by-link tracks from an old Dragon leftover project. They tested my patience to the limit as each link had two knock-out pin marks on the inner face that had to be filed off for better appearance. The patience test continued during the assembly and the painting as well as the links had poor fit and wouldn't stay glued together during the painting and weathering process. The scenic base was made from a Ferrero Rocher plastic container, pieces of  foamboard framed with plastic plate around it. Real dirt, mixed with white glue and black and brown acrilic paint was used to do the groundwork on top of a layer of car filler. Painting was all carried out with Tamiya acrilics and the soot and ash added with pastel chalks.
Bom, finalmente acabei! foi uma longa viagem mas curti muito o resultado e podem estar certos que vou fazer mais tanques destruidos futuramente. Desde o meu ultimo post desse modelo, faltavam as esteiras e fazer uma base ou vinheta. Isso é necessario porque o modelo sozinho, todo destruido, ficaria meio perdido no meio da minha coleção sem uma base. As esteiras são as antigas da Dragon e tem um belo par de marcas de pino extrator na face interna de cada elo. Colar e pintar as esteiras montadas foi um teste de paciencia adicional pois elas nao tem boa "pega" e se decompunham o tempo todo, o que so foi resolvido depois de colar tudo na base. A base mesmo foi feita com uma tampa de embalagem de bombons Ferrero Rocher sobre a qual foram colados pedaços de styrofoam cobertos de massa plastica. Terra bem fina misturada com cola branca e tinta acrilica preta foi aplicada no terreno todo, sobre o qual o modelo foi então colado. A pintura foi toda feita com acrilicas da Tamiya e as manchas de foligem e cinzas foram adicionadas com giz pastel

Well, I gave her the salt treatment and here's what she turned out. The tutorial on how it's done should cover the fact that I haven't added WIP shots here (I got carried away during the painting process...). I personally hope that Francisco Nakamura (the model's owner and my boss, by the way) just enjoyed the result as much as I did. Dear readers, please feel free to comment!
Bem, eu dei-lhe o tratamento de pintura sobre sal conforme descrito no tutorial mais abaixo. Por isso nao adicionei fotos do modelo em progresso (na verdade acabei me envolvendo tanto na pintura, que acabei esquecendo de tirar fotos...). Espero que Francisco Nakamura (o dono do modelo e meu chefe) tenha gostado do resultado tanto quanto eu. Por favor, caros leitores, sintam-se a vontade de comentar!

Panzer Kapputt !!! - part 3 - painting !!!

The techniques described in my previous post were fully applied in the sequence shown here. So here we go:
As tecnicas descritas em meu post anterior foram aplicadas na sequencia que sera descrita aqui. Então vamos la:

Rust pre-shading / pré-sombreamento com ferrugem

3 tones of rust and black were randomly sprayed all over / 3 tons de ferrugem e preto fosco foram aerografados por todo o modelo

Painting / pintura
Unfortunately I lost the pictures with the salt applied, so the pix shown here are of the model painted and with the salt allready removed.
Infelizmente perdi as fotos com o sal aplicado, portanto vão ai as fotos do modelo ja pintado e com o sal devidamente removido.

Now the aftereffects are sprayed on: rusty streaks and oversprays to blend in the different color tones, ground up pastel chalks are added to give it that burnt out look.
Agora, escorridos de ferrugem são feitos para dar uma união aos diferentes tons de cores e giz pastel moido é adicionado para dar a impressão de calcinamento.
